Brother Gregory Sutton, President, Zeta Rho Lambda Chapter, Dover, DE | May 9, 2012
During the past fraternal year, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and listen to both candidates running for position of the 34th General President of our beloved A Phi A. Although both Brothers possess impressive credentials and unique skill sets, I personally relate to Brother Tillman and I believe that he is the leader we need to get us past the current challenges we face. I believe that an investment in Brother Tillman will promote more transparency and accessibility to the office of General President. That is why I casted my vote for Brother Tillman.

After my preferred candidate didn’t make the final 2 in Chicago, I decided to stay neutral until 1 of the candidates managed to convince me to support him. That moment came during the Georgia District Convention in December when I met Brother Tillman for the first time. Despite a brief conversation in the middle of taking care of Alpha business, I came away impressed with Mark Tillman, the man and brother, and I told him on the spot that I would endorse him.
In each of Brother Tillman’s years as Midwest Region Vice President, the Midwest Regional Convention turned a profit. Such a record is a model for other regions and districts to follow. In addition to his fiscally sound management strategy, Brother Tillman has continued Immediate Past General President Brother Darryl Matthews’ legacy of promoting a strategic plan to move Alpha forward. As a Life Member, I need to see a long-term plan that sustains and grows Alpha. Brother Tillman has that plan.
To my brothers who have not submitted their ballots, the better choice is Brother Mark Tillman for 34th General President. I have my key. I hope you have yours, too.
Brother Willard C. Hall, Jr., Past Executive Director of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. | May 7, 2012
Brothers of Alpha,
I’m writing to you today to address concerns that I have about the current state of our Fraternal Affairs. I know that for months now you have been inundated with email, regular mail, social media and mainstream media comments about our Beloved Brotherhood. The messages have been divided and too often divisive.
For me, the position and role of General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is truly the most noble, most demanding, and most trustworthy position we can elevate a brother to fulfill. The vote for our General President, to me is second only to a recommendation for entry into this Noble House.
Two weeks ago you received your ballot to vote for one brother to become the 34th General President. I was proud to continue my investment in Alpha Phi Alpha by choosing Brother Mark S. Tillman to be our next General President. I support Brother Tillman and if you have not made your decision yet, then I ask you to join me, and give him your support also.
This broader message is for the still uncommitted, those of you that are still undecided; those of you that might “wonder” if it is worth your time to vote. My Brother(s), I know that you love this Brotherhood as much as I do, or you would not even have a ballot. Brother(s) you must vote. You must be aware of the issues that concern us. Inside and outside this House, our leadership must reflect our core fraternal values. Our programs can and should be adaptable to society’s needs, yet, the bedrock of our Fraternal Essence must be immovable! Any step away from our core values is a backward step – and we cannot afford backward steps or voter apathy.
I have been trusted by you to assume and hold leadership roles at every level within our Brotherhood. Serving most recently as the 26th Executive Director. No title meant or means more to me than: “Brother.” We are Brothers because of our oath. My oath and yours was and is based on “trust” We trust our Fraternity, we trust our Brothers, and we trust ourselves.
I trust Mark S. Tillman, to uphold the core values of our Dear “A Phi A.” I trust him to always stand firm. I trust him to always have his key, to always protect this House – via his thoughts, his words and his deeds. He has earned my investment by his steadfast demonstrations of consistent leadership and Fraternal Spirit.
My Brothers Beloved, if you are undecided, haven’t voted, Join me. Join the hundreds, the thousands who know without question or hesitation, that we need Brother Mark S. Tillman. Vote Now!
Always Fraternal,
Willard C Hall Jr.

Brothers of Alpha,
As we face these challenging times we are in need of strong and strategic leadership. No more are days where we build our external image in order to validate our mission. No more rhetoric, it’s time for congruence. It is time for an honest inventory of Alpha.
Mark Tillman has always been invested. Throughout his leadership I learned the importance of strategic planning. Throughout his administration I witnessed development, mentorship, and the highly requested “transparency”. While most brothers are focused on the fraternity’s fiscal transparency, it was the moral transparency that encourage this college brother the most.
Tillman has proven his financial responsibility, seeing that every regional convention during his administration was profitable, but the ability to raise funds came secondary the ability to be intentional in reaching the goals set by his administration. Tillman modeled that with strategic planning comes financial growth.
As a college brother I witnessed Tillman make stances on the elements of fraternity that impact college chapters every day. At my first regional convention Tillman brought Brother Walter Kimbrough, Black Greek Letter Organization Expert, into a business session to unpack the myth that hazing positively contributes to the fraternal commitment of brother who have participated in an underground process.
Under Tillman’s administration I was sponsored by the region to attend Alpha’s National Leadership Academy learning the impact of my individual actions on the national fraternity and giving me the opportunity to experience a day in the life of our national headquarters.
Under Tillman’s administration I witnessed an emphasis on the mission. Developing leaders, Tillman’s administration ranks HIGHEST IN SPONSORSHIP and attendance at the National Leadership Academy. Promoting brotherhood, Tillman BUILDS AGENDAS that not only implement the business of the fraternity but builds the brotherhood by providing time for brothers to get to know each other at fraternity functions.
Academic excellence, being transparent about the regional GPA and producing out of the Midwest a constitutional amendment to RAISE THE STANDARD amongst the college brothers on a national level. At my first regional leadership staff meeting Tillman provided college brothers with three books. While many brothers may see this as minor, as a college brother that small deed gave me proof that we truly stand for scholarship. Service and advocacy, Tillman encouraged the region to continue working with our national programs, specifically march of dimes, as our region strived to raise funds that would impact research in communities in which the majority of our membership represent.
Under Tillman’s administration I saw nurtured relationships with college brothers on a local level as well as college brothers in leadership, to a standard in which made me want to run for the seat of Midwest Region Assistant Vice President. Tillman model a level of leadership that encouraged me to be the best Alpha I could be in the light, as well as in the dark.
Brothers, I endorse Mark Tillman not because of popularity or Alpha politics but for the need of strong leadership that will continue the Spirit of Fraternity that Charles H. Garvin coined.
College brothers need empowerment, education, and men of standard to influence them. Tillman can provide an has delivered that mentorship.
Alumni brothers need direction, wise council, and return back to the collegiate focus that Alpha was founded upon. Tillman can provide, target, and appoint the individuals who are inspired by the strength and growth of tomorrows leaders.
Brothers I ask that you vote for the man congruent with the high moral character of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
There is no question about Tillman’s track record or leadership. The question is do you love Alpha enough to make a decision that will make sure we continue to be First of All, Servants of All, Trascending All.
Fraternally,
Brother Frederick Cox

Brother Philip Kelly, Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter, DeKalb, IL | May 2, 2012
Greetings,
I have sat and observed, questioned and engaged both candidates for General President. I have sat and going back and forth who I should vote and know that if given the call, will I answer it without hesitation.
I have received my ballot, and I can’t sit anymore. I can’t sit here and allow the Greatest Fraternity to become irrelevant. I can’t sit here and think and hope for something to come true. I can’t sit here and wish the past didn’t happen. I can’t just keep sitting here and not voice my opinion.
I, Philip H. Kelly Vice President of Mu Alpha Lambda, stands in full support and INVESTMENT of Bro. Mark Tillman. Bro. Mark Tillman is a BROTHER that has a vision for the Fraternity while accepting the past. Bro. Tillman will begin the restoration of our rightful place among all organizations as the best, greatest and the BEACON to all that are downtrodden and have lost their hope.
I can’t allow our Fraternity to become something that was never intended nor extinct. I can’t be the one that had the opportunity to motivate others to move FORWARD and did nothing. I can’t just keep watching greed and self interest persist.
I can stand up, inform and fully encourage you to vote for Bro. Mark Tillman, a BROTHER with a true VISION not a wish.
Brother Elvin J. Dowling, New York, NY | April 29, 2012
My Brothers Beloved:
I am Bro. Elvin J. Dowling, Founder of the “Occupy Alpha” movement, and a most humble servant of our strong and resilient brotherhood. I come before you, once again, in the true spirit of Fraternity, to share with you my thoughts on Alpha Phi Alpha’s future and what I believe we must do to move this Fraternity forward, in the wake of the recent challenges we have faced that literally tear at the heart and soul of this grand organization that we love so dearly.
As you may recall, four years ago I offered myself as a candidate for 33rd General President, in what some would say was a rather “audacious” fashion that literally changed the way we conduct political campaigns in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. At the time, I was the youngest Brother to seek the highest office in Alphadom in nearly 80 years, because I believed, perhaps prematurely, that my aims of providing the brotherhood with “Good Alpha Government” (centered upon transparency and accountability), Helping to Save Black Males and Redefining College Chapter Intake, were the solutions we needed to strengthen our fraternal union. The brotherhood, in its wisdom and understanding, however, decided to move in a different direction, a decision that I continue to respect—even to this day.
With that being said, however, as Alpha Phi Alpha again makes history, entering into unchartered territory for the first time in over a century, the time has come for each of us–as Alpha Men–to make the tough decision about what is best for the collective brotherhood, particularly as it relates to the election of our 34th General President. For me, however, the decision to offer an UNSOLICITED ENDORSEMENT in this race, does not come easy, as I realize that by doing so I may be placing my own political future in Alpha into question; as those I have stood with for nearly twenty years will not stand with me as I make this announcement. Sometimes, however, our conscience and our love for Alpha, and most importantly for its future, dictates that we do the right thing because it is the right thing to do, and, as such, I proudly announce my unequivocal and unwavering endorsement and support for Bro. Mark Tillman to be Alpha’s next great leader.
As a matter of protocol, I want to go on record as having said that I salute Bro. Roderick Smothers’ leadership in our Fraternity and his willingness to serve as General President over the course of the next four years. In fact, as young undergraduate students, Bro. Smothers and I even served together on the Board of Directors for Alpha Phi Alpha, he representing the Southwestern Region and I representing the Eastern Region, which makes this decision all the more difficult for me. Today, however, as our Fraternity grapples with the greatest constitutional crisis to face us perhaps ever, I not only believe that Bro. Mark Tillman is sufficiently independent of the way we have done “business as usual” (and those who have a vested interest in keeping the status quo exactly the way it is), but I am more than confident that he offers the moral conviction and strength of character we need to restore our image as a God-fearing band of family men dedicated to the service of all humankind. Just as importantly, however, Bro. Tillman’s unparalleled leadership at the local, regional and national levels, strengthened by his wonderful wife of fifteen years, Velicia, is the prescription for progress we need for the public perception issues that ail us men of integrity and renown.
My Brothers, four years ago, I stood before the General Convention and declared that “Alpha Phi Alpha is dying and no one seems to care…” Well Brothers, I was wrong… Someone does care and has offered himself for leadership in the crucible known as the General Presidency. That someone is Bro. Mark Tillman: a family man; a “Brother’s Brother” and Alpha Phi Alpha’s best hope for the dawn of a better and brighter twenty-first century. To that end, I intend to cast my vote for Bro. Tillman for 34th General President and I encourage you to do the same.
In the spirit of high idealism, I remain
Fraternally Yours,
Bro. Elvin J. Dowling

Brother Heager L. Hill, Omicron Lambda Chapter, Birmingham, AL | April 27, 2012
Brothers All, Greetings!
It is with delight that I greet you as a Brother in Omicron Lambda Chapter of our beloved Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. Please allow me the opportunity to offer comments concerning the upcoming election of our General President. Ballots are currently in the mail.
As an introduction to newer Brothers, I have served as Chapter President, V/P, Director, Housing, Parliamentarian, Life Member Director for the Southern Region (Alpha South), and as a friend and special resource person to both the 26th and 29th General Presidents. Currently, I serve as Vice Chairman of our Past President’s Council, member of the Education Foundation, Housing committee, and ’12-’13 Nomination Committee.
Among my Honors and Awards, I am pleased to be the recipient of the Charlie Green Award, the President’s Award, Chapter Brother of the Year, and as Life Membership Director received the Regional ‘Certificate of Special Recognition for Outstanding Service’. I would like to think that my leadership has been built on a foundation of Brotherhood, integrity, trust and dedication to the aims and goals of our beloved fraternity.
As we all are aware, these are trying times for our beloved fraternity, and our leadership has been called into question much to the disappointment, and dismay of most of us. Nonetheless, as Alpha men, we must regroup, renew our spirit and continue to march ‘toward the light. Going forward, we must be more critical of candidates running for high office to insure, among other superb qualities, that excellent character and reputation is obvious, and it should be the hallmark of our General President who will lead our beloved A Phi A.
To this end, I am pleased to vote for such a candidate, and a man above reproach in the person of Brother Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He has openly documented a stellar background of leadership and trust, integrity, and love for family. He is the man for this critical time of renewal and correction at the helm of our now tarnishes Office of the General President. With your help, he will have the opportunity to make us proud again.
After a careful review of the candidates running you will no doubt come to the same conclusion as I have that Brother Mark S. Tillman has earned our vote to become the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. ‘…Hold up the Name…’

Brother Robert (Bob) Willis, Eta Lambda Chapter, Atlanta, GA | April 27, 2012
My Alpha Brothers,
At this time you should have received your ballot which allows you to do one of the most important tasks available to Alpha Men; to choose the General President of our noble brotherhood. Many of you have made your choice; many of you have already marked your ballot and returned it. Most Brothers that know me personally have known my choice for some time now.
I want to take a few moments to share my choice with each of you, especially if you have not yet made your choice and are still asking questions. I am a past Southern Region Vice President, a recipient of the Alpha Award of Merit, the senior advisor to both the 32nd and the 31st General Presidents, a friend and confidant of each of the living Past General Presidents, Special Advisor to the 26th Executive Director and a friend and mentor to countless other Alpha Brothers. I have gained and earned the respect of Alpha Brothers worldwide for my unwavering stance on the importance of leadership in our Brotherhood. That leadership is first and foremost built on a foundation of integrity and trust; it is backed up by a proven and measurable track record. For these reasons and more, I’m confident in my ability to recognize and support quality leadership. It is from this perspective, to some, a vantage point, that I am able to say without hesitation or reservation; I support Brother Mark S. Tillman to be the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Since his initiation into our ranks, through his non-stop efforts to be of service to his (our) Brothers, he has shown his investment to Alpha, he has proven that the investment that Alpha made in him has not been in vain. I believe unequivocally that Mark Tillman is the right man. He is the right man at this critical juncture in our continued development as a Brotherhood. In our 106 years of existence, we have achieved great feats, climbed to great heights internally and externally, however, we stand now at a crossroads. Never before has the world’s eye been on us as it is at these very moments. More importantly, we are examining ourselves, as we should do. We have seen times when we have allowed emotions to cloud our decision making and elevate some to leadership positions, when leadership is not the best fit for them. We must take a critical look at ourselves and make more reasoned choices moving forward. For me, the best reasoned choice is to declare myself “fully Invested” in Brother Mark S. Tillman.
Brothers, I hope that you will consider my words. Do your own examination, examine the men, examine their character – it should not be buried so deeply that you cannot determine the full measure of the man. Then I hope that you will join me, vote today for Brother Mark S. Tillman, candidate for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Fraternally,
Brother Robert (Bob) Willis

Brother Mark Barnes, President & Director, Pennsylvania Association of Alpha Chapters, Philadelphia, PA | April 27, 2012
To the Brothers of Distinction,
We have reached that moment in our development wherein electing our leaders solely based on promises of hope no longer equates to achievement and advancement for an institution such as ours. Several months ago, I informed you of my voting decision after deep contemplation and rigorous soul-searching in relationship to what I believe is a mission-critical moment in our fraternal society. That decision was for our beloved Brother Mark Tillman. Time has passed since then. You have read campaign literature, heard the candidates, and recieved your ballots in the mail. I feel the need to remind you why Brother Tillman is the select choice to lead change during these troublesome times whether or not you voted or plan to vote for him.
Fundraising and charisma were the political buzz words for our last General President’s election, and you will find no shortage of endorsements with these themes in this current one along with visions of corporate giving granduer at a time when local, state, and global economies are under pressure and the competition among non-voluntary organizations for crumbs in the pie pan have intensified. Waiting for Superman to save us is not a smart nor dignified strategy for an elite group such as ours. If the display of organizational compromise for corporate sponsorship in participant dress I witnessed at the Eastern Region Convention during the Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest at the College Brothers’ Luncheon is any indication of what our Fraternity’s future holds in fundraising, then we need to adorn our meeting blazers, t-shirts and other paraphernalia with “for sale” badges because that is what we’ll be. Brother Tillman has demonstrated that he can build our treasury from within by turning Convention profits while he served as the Midwestern Regional Vice President. This was done utilizing the talents and gifts of the Brotherhood. Brother Tillman sees us as assets rather than liabilities. This is the mark of a visionary and inclusive leader who believes in Alpha’s greatest investment, bright and able-bodied collegians and alumni.
Technical ability, organizational efficiency, corporate standards, and accountability have become synonymous with the terms unbrotherly or unfraternal in recent years. As Bob Dylan sang, “the times . . . they are a-changing’.” Do we weaken our organization as well as our Brothers when we allow ourselves to hold sound business practices in low regard? As a District President, I have seen how our college and alumni chapters near and far struggle in developing and managing their enterprises. This, at times, has lead to the kind of decision-making that typifies and helped to create the current state of affairs at the highest level in the Fraternity. Simply put, the situation is purely environmental. And I know, based on my interactions with Brother Tillman, that he not only has the technical ability to help change the properties of an environment which leads to deterioration but he can do this in a manner that is purely fraternal and far-reaching to college and alumni Brothers alike. For example, he discounted his regional convention registration rates for Brothers who registered for their district conferences. I appreciate this gesture because it shows Brother Tillman thinks globally and critically about the impacts our meetings have on college and alumni Brothers. This is the true spirit of Fraternity in which my district launched its meeting study to assess the vulnerabilities we are developing for one another. We can want people we think have Alpha Phi Alpha’s best interests at heart all day long but what we need, at this moment and beyond, are elected leaders who not only believe in Brotherhood but also are as capable and have shown competence at delivering it through the implementation of functional models in business and meetings. Brotherhood and business are not in mortal conflict as many have been lead to believe by those of us who lack an interest in true progress. Both can and must co-exist in today’s world. This is the kind of administrative change and mindset we need to position Alpha Phi Alpha for onward and upward progress at all levels of organizational governance. Anything less places this Fraternity at risk and relegates it to a place where its members wait and hope that someone or some organization will put something in their palms. Don’t hold your breath waiting for Superman. The Brothers in this organization recently completed a grueling fundraising campaign that spanned over two decades. Accomplishing a comparable feat in less than four years is questionable. It’s time to appreciate those that gave and continue to give.
On a final note. The truth is that a vote for Brother Tillman is an investment in us, and one that can be effortlessly deposited today. Don’t be brought by hopeful promises. Elect Brother Tillman for General President. He’s proven his worth through both his investment and action in Alpha Phi Alpha.
Kindly fraternal,
Brother Mark Barnes

I just wanted to say that I proudly stand behind this campaign. Many brothers have seen my recent email talking about electing a brother that will turn over the tables of the money changers, in the House of Alpha and Bro. Tillman I believe is that man.
As a product of the Midwestern Region I’ve seen Bro. Tillman’s commitment to the organization and to brothers individually and have continued to follow his rise once I moved to the Eastern Region when I now serve in the Iota Iota Lambda Chapter.
That said, I just wanted to show my support and let the campaign know that I proudly cast my ballot for Bro. Mark S. Tillman this past Monday.

Dearest Brothers,
Every house needs a strong foundation and frame. As we approach 106 years of leadership and service to humanity, it is important — now more than ever before — that we build upon our foundation and reinforce the frame of our house! How are YOU committed to using YOUR VOTE, for the 34th General President, to strengthen the House of Alpha?
I endorse Brother Mark S. Tillman as the right candidate to elect as our 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated because he has the experience, the character, and the will to take on the heavy task of helping our brotherhood shape a vision for the future.
In 2010-2011, while serving as the Western Region Assistant Vice-President and a Board of Directors member, I had the opportunity to work alongside Brother Tillman. I witnessed firsthand his solution-based leadership style, as well as how he engaged with other leaders on the Board. I saw how he sought to prioritize the task of taking up some of the most pressing issues facing our brotherhood today.
In speaking and engaging with Brother Tillman personally, I learned that he is a man of vision and a man of standards. He is a man with sincerity and a true brother who values the stake that every Alpha Man has in this organization, and he aims to protect our stake as if it were his very own.
As a past National College Brother of the Year, I firmly believe that College Brothers continue to embody the essence of what our Jewels envisioned for our fraternity on that historic Tuesday, December 4th, 1906. Those embodying that essence — the Brothers who are earning an education, serving their community, and living those ‘college days’ that ‘swiftly pass’ — should forever be prioritized within Alpha. As a recent graduate, I am ready to vote and entrust the future of our college chapters with Brother Mark Tillman. I hope that you are ready to do so as well.
I am confident that, as General President, Brother Tillman will lead from the front and strive to bring out the best in our body of talent to address long standing issues of debate within our organization and create solutions: solutions for Membership Intake and Membership Development, Life Membership, assistance for College Brothers and College Chapters, and more.
I encourage every brother, college and alumni, in every region, to consider: How can we ensure a better future for Alpha tomorrow, if we do not unify and invest in it today? We need a General President who will begin the process of modernizing our organization to meet the challenges of tomorrow head on. A vote for Brother Tillman is a vote that says, “The glory days of Alpha are not behind us, but they are in front of us — in our future — as this brotherhood continues to ‘march onward and upward toward the light!’” Let us make that investment!
Let us be bold and begin to chart a vision for our future! Let us elect a man with the experience, character, and will necessary to succeed in taking us into that future! Let us vote to elect Brother Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President! — An investment for the betterment of all Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated!
Fraternally,

To my Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc:
We are about to vote for our new General President in one of the most important elections in the history of our beloved fraternity. It is our duty to make sure we focus on what’s important to us now and who will set us on the right path for a productive future. Taking the time to research which candidate we feel is the right fit for Alpha is vital to moving our organization forward.
Both candidates are our brothers in Alpha for life. Each has a vision and goals that they would like to implement if elected. They have both made significant contributions to the fraternity and I am sure will continue to do so no matter what. After having face to face conversations with both and listening to and studying what they both represent it is my opinion there is one clear leader for us at this time.
This brother has a 26-year track record that has shown us accountability and transparency. This brother is genuine and accessible to anyone who reaches out to him and has the passion to get us on the right track. This brother’s Alpha resume is extensive, impressive and truly represents “Servants of All”, so I don’t need to point out the obvious. Just go to www.thealphainvestment.org for a refresher. Most importantly, I believe no matter what, he is someone who will put Alpha above all else.
As President of the largest chapter in the Missouri District, it is my privilege to say that the men of Epsilon Lambda are endorsing Brother Mark Tillman in his candidacy for 34th General President. We will do our part to assist what I think is the right man for the job earn his position in office. Join us in supporting the man that will take Alpha on its new journey onward and upward.

Brother Zollie Stevenson, Jr., Past Executive Director of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Washington D.C. | April 22, 2012
Dear Brothers,
On Saturday I received my ballot to vote for Alpha’s next General President as did many of you. For many weeks I have alternated between stewing about the current issues that have caused much anger and sadness within the Brotherhood to contemplating how we could turn this sour, lemony situation into lemonade. We have been blessed in each generation of Alpha with leaders who have sailed us safely to shore during challenging times and who have guided and led us to new achievements through a combination of their steadfastness, vision and integrity.
I have known both of our 34th General Presidential candidates for over a decade. I have worked with them during their service as members of the Board of Directors, as regional convention directors (coordinating national training logistics) and as committee members. Yes, I have even had a drink or two with each over the years. We need to rebuild our trust in our leadership…the belief that even as they love Alpha… that our leaders are not using our resources for personal gain or abusing their power to grant undue favors to a few.
With these thoughts and reflections in mind, I will be investing in the leadership of Brother Mark Tillman as our next General President when I cast my ballot tomorrow. Brother Tillman has demonstrated quality leadership through his work back in the 90’s with Alpha University, through his service working with the fraternity’s management information systems, and as a servant-leader of the Midwestern Region and on our national Board of Directors. He understands and believes that our fraternity should be guided by our mission statement and articulated in a strategic plan that will keep us on a path to implement our fraternal goals and objectives. I have never seen or heard of a time when Brother Tillman twisted one of Alpha’s constitutional provisions, by-laws or rules to benefit him differently than it would benefit another Brother. Further, he is a Brother’s Brother and is accessible. He does not need an entourage to deflect the Brothers away from himself at our meetings and conventions.
Brothers, I encourage you to invest in Alpha’s future by voting for Brother Mark Tillman… a man of integrity, steadfastness and vision… as our 34th General President.

My Dear Brothers:
In a matter of weeks, you will cast your ballots for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. As you finalize your decision, I remind you that this is no ordinary election. The stakes are higher than in years past. We are at a critical point in the Fraternity’s history, and the next General President will have to make some tough decisions regarding the Fraternity’s future. The important point to remember is that, because our communities look to Alpha Phi Alpha for leadership, the decisions that the next General President will make will undoubtedly have broad implications for our communities, our nation, and our world. Hence, it is important that we select the best candidate to the position. That candidate is Brother Mark Tillman!
To lead an organization like Alpha Phi Alpha successfully, a candidate must have: 1) apractical vision for the organization 2) a proven record of achievement within the organization, and 3) the intangible personal qualities necessary to garner the respect and admiration of the members of the organization. Brothers, Mark Tillman meets, and exceeds, all of these criteria!
Brother Tillman has a practical vision for Alpha Phi Alpha. His Alpha Investment platform is built on three main themes: Protecting Our Corporate Identity, College Life Through Real Life, and Fight On The Ice. More than mere words, this platform will ensure that the Fraternity is managed effectively internally, that the Fraternity remains relevant to those it aims to serve, that College and Alumni Brothers get the training and guidance they need to succeed socially, fraternally, and professionally, and that the Fraternity continues to provide trailblazing service and advocacy to its target communities.
Brother Tillman has a proven record of achievement within Alpha Phi Alpha. At the local level, as an Area Director, he increased chapter compliance and served as a trainer for Alpha University. At the district level, as Michigan’s District Director, 100% of his chapters were in good standing, and he was one of the chief architects of AlphaNet. At the regional level, as Midwestern Regional Vice President, he instituted a regional strategic plan that improved the region’s financial position, that made the region’s operations more efficient, that increased regional participation in the Fraternity’s National Programs and Special Projects, and that increased College Brother participation in the Alpha Leadership Academy. In addition, under Brother Tillman’s leadership, every Midwestern Regional Convention posted a profit.
Brother Tillman has the intangible qualities needed to lead Alpha Phi Alpha. Having served alongside him on the Fraternity’s national board of directors, I can attest to Brother Tillman’s leadership style and character. Brother Tillman is humble, practical, and consistent. He puts Fraternity before self, surrounds himself with excellent people, and is willing to listen and learn from College and Alumni Brothers of all ages and experience levels. He is a dedicated husband to Velicia, his wife of 15 years, and has a life outside of Alpha that makes him grounded and well-rounded. These things suggest that Brother Mark Tillman will provide moral leadership to the Fraternity as General President.
Brothers, in my humble opinion, Brother Mark Tillman is my candidate that has the vision, record, and character we need in our next General President. Without reservation, I urge all Brothers to cast their ballots for Brother Mark Tillman as 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated!
Fraternally and Tenaciously,
Brother Stuart P. Lott
Past Southern Region Assistant Vice President (2007-2008)
Brother Cameron M. Thierry, Immediate Past Midwestern Region AVP | April 21, 2012
Greetings to the Distinguished Brotherhood:
In the coming months, you will all be called to vote in the election of our 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I write you today earnestly to share where my alliance stands in this election and why. It is without hesitation that I stand behind Bro. Mark S. Tillman and the Alpha Investment – Protecting Our Corporate Identity : College Life through Real Life : Fight on the Ice!
While serving as the Midwestern Regional AVP, I have had the privilege of working directly alongside Bro. Tillman to represent the brothers of the Midwestern Region and the brothers beyond on the National Board of Directors. During this time, I have witnessed his commitment to excellence in this Fraternity. What I have found to be most revered about Bro. Tillman is his diligence and the provocative thought offered when it comes to addressing the many pressing matters that are presented to this Fraternity. I believe that an imperative part of leadership is about having the audacity to lead authentically, and Bro. Tillman has proven he is about just that. He has modeled the appropriate leadership behavior which has fostered trust, and when you look at the roadmap Bro. Tillman has as already trotted down in this Fraternity you can see that he has not jeopardized this in any way. He has continuously dedicated his time, commitment, and heart to the betterment of this Fraternity and brotherhood, and we as brothers have reaped the fruits of his labor. Let us not judge a brother on what he says, but judge him on what he does.
Bro. Tillman is heavily invested in the renewed lifeline of this Fraternity – the college brothers. In our unique dual college/alumni leadership position, he gave me the freedom to lead in our region and voice my concerns. He was open to hearing my viewpoint and allowed me to execute my platform with his. That is the foundation of our fraternal ideal – equipping young men with the developmental leadership qualities by providing an outlet where they can build themselves into better men to be able to go out and better this world. Bro. Tillman understands this philosophy – he preaches it, practices it, and ensures we prepare college brothers for it.
I once said, “We are quick to identify a paper brother, but we play blind to paper leadership.” For the latter part of that quote, I can attest to the fact that when it comes to leadership Bro. Tillman has not fainted or faltered, and knowing the man and brother he is I do not expect him to do so while serving at the top. He will lead this House of Alpha with excellence in these doubtful and troubling times – not only those facing Alpha, but those facing this world at large, where the efforts of Alpha are needed and called. Therefore, I am banking my investment – my vote – with him for our collective future.
Fraternally,
Brother Cameron M. Thierry

”The leader today must cultivate in all the people new social virtues; a keener ability to appraise these problems in terms of workable social values; the interest to ferret out and checkmate the enemies of social programs; the wisdom to achieve, as Judson Herrick says, ‘the proper balance between personal and public good.” – Jewel Henry Arthur Callis.
“The office of general president is one of… sacred trust. The incumbent holds the leadership mantle over an assembly of the nation’s greatest minds. The incumbent leader, to be successful, must be strong enough to follow. He must be resourceful, courageous, dynamic and versatile. While he will achieve honor and acclain, he must also understand that these are not ends in themselves. ‘Honor and shame no condition rise; from well act your part in there the honor lies,’ said the poet. The office of general president is one of distinction; also it is ‘the station of labor in the vineyard of love and service.’ It is fitting reward that comes as a climax to a season of service to the brotherhood. I have always said that the office should seek the man rather than the reverse.” – Antonio Maceo Smith – 17th General President.
With these quotes from Jewel Henry Arthur Callis and Brother General President Antonio M. Smith, I am confidant that these words describes the character of Brother Mark S. Tillman. I encourage my fellow brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to join me in casting your vote for Brother Mark S. Tillman to become our 34th General President.See More

Bro. Tillman
I would like to endorse your candidacy for the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
It was a pleasure having you address my chapter on your platform and your vision for the fraternity. Despite the size of my chapter, I was impressed that you took the time to meet and greet the many brothers in attendance.
I also enjoyed conversing with you on other various occasions such as the Georgia District Conference and Southern Regional Convention. It was good to see you articulate your roadmap to success to the brotherhood.
None of these highlights compare to our encounter on April 2nd 2012. I was deeply humbled and moved that a candidate for General President took the time out of his busy schedule to give me, a single brother, a phone call to address my questions and concerns. You not only demonstrated leadership and success through your track record, but you also demonstrated your authenticity as a fraternal brother.
As an 11 year brother, the fraternity invested in my development throughout the years to insure I was nurtured as a college so I can become a productive alumni brother. At this time, I want the fraternity to receive one of my largest returns on its investment, and that would be my endorsement of Brother Mark Tillman at the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Good Will Is The Monarch Of This House! It is no secret that our beloved fraternity is at a major cross-road in this our 2nd Century of being First of All, Servants of All. As we continue with our Global expansion and making positive impact in our various communities and in the spirit of our 7 Jewels, we need a leader who is a visionary, one who is tried and proven, a man of integrity and brotherly love.
As Chairman of International Affairs, I am grateful and humbled to have been a part of history as Alpha Phi Alpha has proudly established and re-chartered several chapters. Five of the new chapters are located outside of the United States: Beta Psi (London, England), Rho Chi Lambda (London, England), Rho Phi Lambda (Johannesburg, South Africa), Eta Epsilon Lambda (Monrovia, Liberia) and Sigma Beta Lambda (Freeport, Grand Bahama Bahamas).
After having considered both candidates and their track record (fraternal, professional, family life and community service etc.), I fully support and endorse Bro. Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I am convinced that he has the integrity, character, temperament and skill set that our House will be in good hands i.e. protecting of the Brand, Fiscal Management, Global Vision/Expansion, Effective Communicator, cutting edge of technology and a Brother’s brother.
Bro. Mark S. Tillman has been faithful and consistent as a good role model throughout his 25 yrs in good standing as an Alpha man. Over the years, I have come to love, appreciate and respect Bro. Tillman and as I reflect on The Alpha Investment plan, his life and service, what is clear to me is that he is uniquely equipped and gifted to lead us at such a time as this.
In Bro. Tillman’s own words “As candidate for 34th General President of Alpha, I believe it is important that all brothers support our international chapters. I will invest in a strategy to evaluate our fraternal structure to better incorporate and support our international expansion. I have, and will continue to support our international brothers as I value the global makeup of our fraternity.”
Our next General President no doubt should be one who will continue the traditions of the past laid by our Founders and invest in the future. Therefore, I encourage all brothers and especially those of our International Chapters to cast your vote for Bro. Mark S. Tillman!
Always & Fraternal,
André A. Moss, LM #10720

My Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha:
In the coming weeks we will be asked to select from our ranks the next Brother to lead our Fraternity as our 34th General President. Without any reservation, I am supporting Brother Mark Tillman for this role and I ask you to join me in voting for him.
Brother Tillman is a seasoned leader and a consummate professional with extensive Alpha experience. Having worked alongside Brother Tillman on our National Board of Directors, I have witnessed first-hand his actions and his leadership style. Both are based on integrity, honesty and loyalty.
In these challenging days ahead, it’s critical that we have a leader who will put the will of the Brotherhood first in all his actions. I’m confident that Brother Tillman is that type of leader. I have no doubt that he will lead Alpha Phi Alpha without regard to internal or external politics. Instead, his decisions will be rooted and grounded in what’s best for the organization.
So, when your ballot arrives, please join me in proudly casting your vote for Brother Mark Tillman. In my opinion, he will serve our Brotherhood well with honor, integrity and distinction.

It is no surprise to any Alpha brother that we’re at a critical junction in our Fraternity’s history – or at least it shouldn’t be. The stakes are as high as they’ve ever been, and rightfully so. The path we choose to embark on at this critical junction will undoubtedly shape our unwritten and written legacy. We must make sure that such legacy is protected, preserved, and nurtured with the right investments in order to ensure that when we look back at this moment it will be unequivocally clear that we stood up for the principles and ideals envisioned, articulated, and personified by the Jewels. No small task, indeed. We must search deep in our hearts while using every ounce of energy in our minds to ask some serious questions regarding the present state of Alpha as well as our near and distant future. Some may say that Alpha has lost its soul. Others may say that this is just business as usual and that all is good in the House of Alpha. Some may not even have an opinion. No matter what school-of-thought you belong to on this spectrum of perspectives, one fact surfaces: Alpha should and must remain “the college of friendship, the university of brotherly love, and the school for the better making men of men.” But will it?
I certainly hope so. Unfortunately, hope alone is not sufficient to shape our legacy – at least not in the direction that is aligned with our founding principles, ideals, and objectives. The right investment will be a step in the right direction. We must invest in our future by making a careful investment now in the Brother we elect as our next General President. We must invest in Alpha’s leadership. Can one man make Alpha the greatest organization in the world? That’s a far-fetched fantasy. But most of us can agree that we need the right servant leader with the adequate skill-sets to help stimulate the environment that will ultimately enable our success as an organization. We need a leader that can galvanize a balanced team of Brothers across all regions and demographics of Alpha so that we can build a climate destined for success. I know that Brother Mark S. Tillman is more than equipped to do so. If you take the time to make an objective evaluation of the facts, I am confident you will independently reach the same conclusion. We must move beyond the emotional appeals we hear in these campaigns. We really need to do the Alphaly thing; which is to be objective judges of facts and evidence. There is no shortage of opinions in Alpha – subscribe to just one Alpha listserv and you will see what I mean. But while opinions vary the facts will always hold constant.
Here are some facts about Brother Tillman that I can attest to based upon first-hand experience working with him. After serving on the Board of Directors with Brother Tillman from 2007-2008, it became clear that he is a steadfast leader, a visionary, and a Brother’s brother whose dedication to the ideals of Alpha will never waver under any circumstance. He was an independent thinker on the Board and always stood up for what he believed was in Alpha’s best interest. He never voted for something just because it was popular or politically expedient to do so. He always stood up for Alpha’s best interest. Why is this important? We need to know where our leaders stood yesterday, stand today, and will stand tomorrow and the days, weeks, months, and years to come. Brother Tillman’s core as a servant leader will not be influenced by political tides and/or desires for personal gain.
I won’t flatter myself into thinking that I can convince any Brother to vote one way or another. I am just kindly asking you to be an independent evaluator of the facts. I urge you to look at his record, ask tough questions of him, and scrutinze his experience within and outside of Alpha. Brother Tillman’s accomplishments are simply too long to discuss here so you are better served by visiting his website.
Go to http://www.thealphainvestment.org, get the facts, and make the right investment in Alpha.

Our grand fraternity needs a leader and visionary for our next General President. The fraternity needs to capitalize on the interest garnered with the dedication of the Martin Luther King National Memorial. Also the fraternity needs to demonstrate financial stability and transparency. One of the most important decisions we as men of Alpha Phi Alpha will make is selecting our leader. We will select a Brother who will serve as the face of the fraternity and represent this distinguished organization in the world’s view.
It was indeed an honor to serve AlphaEast as the 25th Eastern Region Vice President, on this backdrop and as a former member of the Fraternity’s Board of Directors I wholeheartedly endorse Brother Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His Alpha Investment plan is critical to the long term success of this fraternity. I served on the Board of the Directors with Brother Tillman and I was able to observe firsthand his dedication and knowledge of this fraternity. He has served in all levels of fraternity leadership roles, including two terms as Midwestern Regional Vice President. In that role he served as the CEO of the region and successfully ensured chapter compliance. Brother Tillman’s background in information technology will ensure that the fraternity will remain…..”First of All.”
The Alpha Investment is highlighted by 3 major areas:
Protecting our Corporate Identity
- An absolute must if we are to survive for another 100 years.
College Life through Real Life
- We must ensure the academic and career aspirations of our College Brothers.
- We must ensure that our College Brothers are ready to take on the mantle of leadership within the fraternity.
Fight on the Ice!
- We must follow roadmaps that align with the fraternity’s strategic plan.
- We must place an emphasis on National Programs and Special Project to better serve the community.
As my Brothers of AlphaEast celebrated the 80th Annual Eastern Region Convention in Portsmouth, Virginia, they saw firsthand how Brother Tillman explained his vision for the fraternity in detail while maintaining a fellowship with the Brothers. Brothers of AlphaEast know that Brother Tillman is a “Brother’s Brother” and not pretentious in anyway.I am fully invested in Brother Mark S. Tillman to lead Alpha Phi Alpha. I trust his leadership.
Fraternally,
Brother Dennis G. Kemp, Sr.

Throughout all of Brother Mark S. Tillman’s accomplishments as a servant leader within Alpha Phi Alpha, the one quality that he’s continuously emanated has been that of exemplifying a good Brother. Brother Tillman is a good Brother that understands and goes above and beyond for college and alumni Brothers alike.
The first time I personally met Brother Tillman was at the 103rd General Convention in New Orleans, which was my first General Convention. I was fortunate enough to be selected for the National Shadow the General President Competition. Brother Tillman was the first to e-mail me words of congratulations as well as advice about taking the opportunity to get to know my General President and understanding how each has crafted the organization into what it is today. These simple words, more important to a neophyte Brother than he probably ever imagined, plus the opportunity to shadow, were truly the beginning of a journey for me. They led to a set of experiences that I cherish and live by everyday as an Alpha Man.
Since that first interaction, I’ve continued to be inspired by Brother Tillman. I’ve gone on to serve as the President of my chapter and even had the opportunity to attend the Alpha College Chapter Leadership Academy. From my earliest days as an Alpha, I’ve had the privilege of being developed through the investment of older Brothers and the leadership opportunities they’ve entrusted me with me. These opportunities have given me a seasoned perspective, even as a young Brother, and from these experiences I can tell you that Brother Mark S. Tillman encompasses the qualities of a great General President.
From College life through Real Life, I plan on making an investment in Alpha because it has made an investment in me. Will you make the Investment, Brother?

This Indiana Brother is in full support of the candidacy of Brother Mark Tillman to become and serve as our 34th General President. Brother Tillman is a brother that we have seen grow over the years as District Director of Michigan and as the Midwestern Regional Vice President, representing our region on the Board of Directors of our great Fraternity. He is a brother who can walk with kings, but will never lose the common touch. Brother Tillman and I have often disagreed on issues and ideas, but the House of Alpha has always existed with us. Because he is approachable, willing to listen, and consider another point of view, he is the person that is needed to lead and preserve the legacy of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
I do not just make comments because they are politically correct, but quite the opposite. Brother Tillman has served the chapters and districts in this region with respect, dedication, distinction, and conviction, and humility, often to the irritation of others who had their own agendas, which were not in the best interest of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Brother Tillman was also been a more than excellent steward of the Regional finances, continuing the profitability of his predecessor and growing those finances. This, in itself, prepares him to become that same excellent steward of the finances of the national organization.
I humbly ask that all brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha to support Brother Tillman and ensure the legacy of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Over the past 3 years, I have gotten to know Bro Tillman as a man of integrity, commitment and most of all, he loves this fraternity. He has developed a strong understanding of the fraternity’s infrastructure, networking, international scope and national breathe during his ascension from 1985 Initiate to Immediate Past Midwest Region Vice President. His commitment to the entire organization is unequaled when witnessing the numerous trips and visits he has made to the Western Region, beginning way before he actually declared as a candidate for 34th General President. Bro Tillman has been continuously thanked and applauded by all of our Regional Vice Presidents for his guidance, leadership and given support during his tenure on our Board of Directors.

Greeting Brothers,
I am writing to you in support of Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I support Bro. Tillman in his journey to be Alpha’s next General President. Bro. Tillman has had a personal impact on me during my time as an Alpha. He has always been there for my chapter and been there for me as a brother when I needed a helping hand. Bro. Tillman helped pay part of my way to the Alpha Leadership Academy in Baltimore last year. It was one of the most important experiences I have had in my Alpha career and I will never forget it. I gained so much from the academy and would not have been able to attend without the support from brother Tillman. Whether it was a simple phone call, email, Alpha issues, or financially, Bro. Tillman has always been there. He has been a diligent worker of Alpha. Bro. Mark Tillman will no doubt be a great General President.
As Area 2 Assistant Director, District of Missouri Brother of the Year, and an active member on the district, regional, and national level, I support Bro. Mark S. Tillman will be an outstanding leader for our freaternity. Onward and Upward Towards the Light, Forever Forward.

The good book tells us that “to every time there is a season” and it is my view that what the fraternity needs right now is a Brother like Brother Mark Tillman. He is a realist, a pragmatist and a brother’s brother. His attention to detail and grasp of the financial burden the conventions and conferences bring to bear on a brother in today’s economy convince me that he is the one to lead this fraternity in these times of fiscal austerity and so I endorse his candidacy wholeheartedly.

Brother Isaac V. Norris, Eta Nu Lambda Chapter, Grand Rapids, MI | January 2, 2012
Greetings Brothers,
I greet you as a brother of the greatest fraternity ever created to serve all mankind. I am, Brother Isaac V. Norrisand I maintain my goals to the fraternity as a working member in service to the Eta Nu Lambda Chapter of AlphaPhi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. has been the incubator and cultivator of many leaders who have selflessly served to make the lives of all…better. Bro. Mark S. Tillman is the manifestation of the Seven Jewels’ purpose for creating the fraternity.
I have had the honor of knowing Brother Mark S. Tillman for ten years. I have had the pleasure of watching Brother Tillman work strategically with the goal of excellence, guiding and shaping our Michigan District and the Midwest Region to serve well the founded vision of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I have always admired his commitment to the brotherhood. I have often been astonished at his ability to, “be there”. He is a brother who always makes time for the fraternity. Brothers, let’s face it, we know that service and commitment to Alpha is not easy. Balancing our faith, family, and finances is not an easy task, lest we mention our promises made to “uphold the light of Alpha”.
Brother Tillman has an energy level that is seemingly tireless. His commitment is fueled by his love for the fraternity. I personally endorse his candidacy as he seeks the 34th office of General President of our dear fraternity.
A few years ago, I reluctantly attended a camping trip initiated by Brother Tillman. Brothers from Grand Rapids and Detroit packed our cars with tents, survival gear, and aims of roughing it by camping in northern Michigan.
Spending time outside of the norm allows the brotherhood to get to know one another better, as we should. I learned that Brother Tillman truly enjoys the great outdoors – tents, dirt, bugs, and all.
Some how, Bro. Tillman managed to convince me to white water kayak down the beautiful Wolverine River. I had never kayaked before in my life. Needless to say, I spent the first hour of the three hour river trip frustrated as I continually flipped my kayak. Honestly, I was mad as “hell” and not having fun at all. Upon finally reaching our mid way stop for lunch, Brother Tillman gave me great advice to correct my problem. He told me to look far beyond, up the river. He stressed that I continually point my kayak towards a landmark I want to reach farther up the river. He encouraged me not to concentrate so much on the logs and rocks in front of me as I would probably hit them and capsize. He proposed that I look beyond, farther up the river steering the kayak steadfast towards a distant landmark. After awhile, I got pretty good at “locking in” mentally and visually towards landmarks farther ahead of me. I learned to set goals, ever-changing, and reach them in the moment. Together, as brothers we all completed the river’s journey, successfully….mission accomplished!
This trip taught me that as brothers, we share the same river, i.e. life, with excellence as a shared goal. The journey is loaded with obstacles and challenges both personal and collective. Let’s not forget our grand fraternal history nor become overwhelmed with the chapter tasks at hand, but we must continually focus our journey towards the future of our fraternity for generations to come.
Brothers, I call upon you to lend your support to the campaign of Brother Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President of our beloved fraternity. Let’s invest in this journey and reach our….excellence!
Onward and Upwards,

My Brothers in Alpha,
We should be well informed about the qualifications and platforms of our two candidates for 34th General President. Their attributes and demonstrated performance, vision, commitment, experience, legacy of duty, dedication, interpersonal skills, and fraternal involvement, all must be stringently considered. Also, a historical pattern of astute leadership, being a team player, profound work of substance in the trenches, and a steady toil in the vineyards of Alpha should further identify which candidate will be this Brother.
As a past Virginia Association of Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (VACAPAF) President & Virginia District Director, a VACAPAF Financial Secretary, Senior Advisor to the Immediate Past Eastern Region Vice-President, Bro. Dennis Kemp, Sr., a Chapter President of AMA’s Alumni Chapter of the Year and Charles H. Wesley Brotherhood Award winner, a college chapter advisor, and a 53+ year involved member of our great Fraternity, I have observed application of these above relevant factors over many years. Thus, it became a “no-brainer” for me to unequivocally make my Alpha investment in BROTHER MARK S. TILLMAN, the Immediate Past Midwestern Region Vice President. Bro. Tillman has been totally immersed in Alpha at the chapter, district, regional and national levels. He is fully aware of all issues and concerns that our fraternity has faced in the past, faces today, and will face tomorrow, and he has proven to be a yeoman in the pursuits of taking care of our Brothers and the business of our fraternity. He has been a superb steward of organizational funds. Mark has thoroughly exhibited and sustained these outstanding results at all positions: an Area Director and District Director in Michigan, Midwestern Region Associate Executive Director, Midwestern Regional Vice President, an Alpha University trainer in Leadership and Development, and as a four-year member on the Board of Directors of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
During his tenure as Midwestern Region VP, he developed and instituted the “Roadmap to Excellence” as an annual agenda to demonstrate execution of the Fraternity’s National Strategic Plan tasks with the goals of the Midwestern Region. His region ranked #1 or #2 in chapter compliance nationwide and ranked #1 or #2 in collegiate member attendance at the Alpha Leadership Academy. He identified new revenue streams for the Midwestern Region through corporate sponsors and effective fund-raising initiatives; and despite hard economic times, Bro. Tillman conducted four financial and programmatically successful Midwestern Regional conventions which MADE MONEY and PROMOTED BROTHERHOOD.
What puts Bro. Tillman in the forefront is his sustained and proven performance (he’s been there and done that); his visionary grasp of concepts and pro-activity (foresees the issues and acts accordingly to preclude problems); his “people skills” and sincerity with all he meets; his awareness of, and his positive actions in, establishing and maintaining sound organizational fiscal policies and procedures; and finally, his zeal and zest in the promotion of Brotherhood in making Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. the best it can be for ALL OF ITS MEMBERS.
Bro. Tillman’s demeanor and presence brings to mind a passage from Luke 14:11, “…and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.” The Office of the General President is about LEADERSHIP to an August body of men. A leader who serves with passion; a leader who serves with humility. Within Alpha Phi Alpha, we pride ourselves on developing leaders. And if you look at the history and accomplishments of Brother Tillman, we have a leader who has continually demonstrated the traits that are paramount and what we look for in a General President. The General President’s role is SYNERGETIC, more than the sum of individual tasks that can be hired. Brother Tillman’s dedication to service is evident; his vision to move our fraternity is clear, attainable and measurable; and his record of service is consistent and commendable. In my opinion, this is what the fraternity is looking for in a General President, one who will be exalted to lead.
Bro. MARK S. TILLMAN has performed admirably, far out in front of all others. His connectivity with substance, coupled with his depth of leadership experience and managerial skills, is what we need in our next General President. I wholeheartedly, and without reservation, solicit your support to make your Alpha investment vote for BROTHER MARK S. TILLMAN as our 34TH GENERAL PRESIDENT of ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC.
In the True Spirit of Fraternity,

My brothers,
I want the record to show that this Missouri brother is in support of Brother Mark S. Tillman to become our 34th General President. Brother Tillman is a brother that most of us have seen for almost two decades in the Midwestern Region. I remember when he worked on the regional convention staff in 1997 when the convention was here in St. Louis. From then until now, Brother Tillman has remained humble, a more than competent leader, and a brother that you can call upon at anytime.
We comment on many things that we dislike about the fraternity; excessive spending, our purpose, and our brotherhood. At no time has Brother Tillman’s integrity on these items been questioned. This brother has a track record of experience and consistency. He served our region with distinction, with class, and with conviction. He supported the brothers of Missouri countless times when we needed an issue to be resolved. No leader makes everyone happy, but I know he treated everyone with respect.
For my money, I’m supporting the brother who kept our region respected in Alpha with our compliance, is fraternal with everyone he encounters, just ask my son, and has kept us in the black while making a profit from everyone one of the regional conventions he led, just ask our brothers here in Epsilon Lambda.
I and many Missouri brothers know what we have in Brother Tillman and what we always had in our backyard. A TRUE LEADER THAT CAN LEAD ALPHA..NOW AND TOMORROW!!!
I urge ALL to support Brother Tillman, an Investment with a GREAT return!!!

There is nothing more impressive to me than to see a combination of practical intelligence, discipline, vision, and sincerity all being applied towards an investment in our future; Alpha Investment. Time as it relates to a proven track record has showed why Bro. Mark Tillman is more than qualified to lead this great fraternity back to the essence of what made this core group of intelligent men special in the eyes of society.
In this time of uncertainty in which the overall spirit of the sphinx men is being questioned because the AIM’s are not being fully displayed to the masses as it relates to truly being engaged towards progressive social change. Without questioning Bro. Mark Tillman is not only part of the solution; Brothers soul to soul, mind to mind, spirit to spirit once he is in office as our General President his leadership will be the whole solution….Live Life.

My Brothers, as a Life Member, Past New England District Director, and 23-year Brother, I love my A-Phi-A and care as much about where it stands today as where it will stand tomorrow. It must be said that I will support and respect whichever candidate the majority Brotherhood chooses to elect as our next General President, however, I implore you to listen to the candidates intently and trust your inner Alpha who knows what is right for this Beacon of Hope, this Philosophy, this Organization, this Brotherhood we live and breathe called Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and you will see that there is only ONE candidate with a True Vision and a True Platform and willing to make a True INVESTMENT in YOU and in ALPHA. That candidate is Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President.

Dear brothers,
It is with great enthusiasm and unshakeable conviction that I offer my endorsement of Bro. Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President of our great fraternity. In these uncertain and turbulent times, the Fraternity needs a proven servant-leader. Bro. Tillman’s experience, administrative expertise, humility, and accessibility make him the ideal candidate to lead the Fraternity going forward.
I first met Bro. Tillman back in January. I had a certain question that I asked of all the candidates at the time that I felt gave me a window into how they felt about the pervasive problem of elitism within the Fraternity. I expected a stock answer. Instead, I got a message inviting me to call him to discuss my issue. Mind you, I’m not a celebrity, I’m not rich…I’m just an average brother who has spent 10 years working hard for Alpha Phi Alpha. Since then, I’ve received and made frequent phone calls and had many substantive conversations with Bro. Tillman, discussing his vision for the Alpha, and just being fraternal. He is a brother that makes you truly want to invest in him, because he makes a personal investment in you, whether you are a Board member or a rank and file brother. That personal touch is what is often missing in the fraternity, and Bro. Tillman is a servant leader who I’m confident will be OF the brothers, not ABOVE the brothers.
Moreover, Bro. Tillman’s track record as a Midwestern Regional Vice President have demonstrated his capacity to lead effectively and fairly. As a member of the Board of Directors, Bro. Tillman provided a voice for many faceless and voiceless brothers, who often get lost in the shuffle. His fiscal management record is sterling, and he possesses a keen recognition that the fiscal destiny of the fraternity is inextricably tied to the ability to get brothers to invest in the Fraternity, just by honoring our pledge and paying our dues.
I believe in Mark Tillman and have absolutely no doubt that he can positively alter the trajectory of our Fraternity. I wholeheartedly endorse Bro. Mark Tillman for 34th General President.
Fraternally,

Today, After much thought and prayers, I have made the decision to officially endorse the candidacy of Bro. Mark Tillman for the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling, former Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas noted that “Leaders, Do not make themselves. They are made instead by the people they lead, by the people who believe in them and by the people who are prepared to follow them not out of fear, or because it may be the in-thing to do, or because of some hypnotic spell, but because deep down there is a faith that moves them to lift us up to a height above their own in the hope that, from the lofty perch to which they have raised us, we can see what they cannot and, that having seen, we, as their leaders, can point the way forward into the tomorrows that await us all.”
As an International Brother, I am looking to my next General President to truly have a comprehensive plan that will assist Brothers like me to truly feel a part of this international organization. The General President’s vision must be one that is committed to embracing and allowing Brothers who may feel disenfranchised to return to the fold.
Bro. Tillman’s commitment to Alpha is impressive; his dedication to reaching out to Brothers with genuine concern is notable and his credentials are worthy of favorable consideration.
That is why I am fully invested in Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President and I am encouraging all Brothers who are concerned about OUR FUTURE to be fully invested in his candidacy.

My Beloved Brothers in Alpha:
As a former Regional Assistant Vice President, I write today to give my whole-hearted endorsement of the Brother whose commitment and dedication to excellence has assured me that he should serve as the next General President of Alpha Phi Alpha; Brother Mark S.Tillman.
There are a number of men who, since my initiation, have become Big Brothers in the truest since and I count Brother Tillman amongst them. His is the example we should follow in seeking to be good, committed and diligent servants in this organization of leaders. His is the example of a man who achieved that heavily sought balance between brotherhood and business and did so at the expense of neither. While capable, Brother Tillman’s respect within this house is not rooted in his ability to give a stirring speech. While knowledgeable, it is not grounded in his ability to recite to us our own history. Brother Tillman’s respect within the House of Alpha is squarely founded on the years of sincere time and effort he has given to Alpha and, more importantly, to the community that Alpha serves. This is a Brother whom an army of gentlemen that endeavor to be servant leaders would be proud to have as their General.
I had the honor of working alongside Brother Tillman during his tenure on our National Board of Directors as an AVP in his region. During this time, I learned first-hand the detailed nature by which he approaches his work and his emphasis on transparent and regular communication with the Brotherhood. He engages each and every task with the strategic mindset you would expect from the leader of a 20,000-member organization and particularly one to which you pay dues. In the era of $100K losses, the fact that not a single one of Brother Tillman’s Regional Conventions lost money is a testament to his business prowess and commitment to planning and execution. These are the qualities we need to fortify the House of Alpha. Sound practices, proven results and an ability to execute are hallmarks of Brother Tillman’s leadership.
Lastly, I would be remiss not to discuss how Brother Tillman catered to our college membership, not in rhetorical or patronizing ways, but with significant efforts aimed at preparing us for fruitful membership in Alpha and success in Real Life. When I set out to host a College Brothers Retreat, he made sure that as many Brothers as possible from throughout the Region could attend, at practically no cost to themselves. He later supported an effort to solidify the College Brothers Retreat as an annual program with full funding from the General Organization. Under his leadership, his region was also the first to begin systematically collecting college chapter GPAs leading to an organization-wide effort to catalogue this data which in turn allows us to identify struggling chapters and help our Brothers meet their fullest academic potential.
Having now been a Brother under two administrations and having learned the legacies of those that preceded them, I can fully understand the significance of the Office of General President. This is not an election to take lightly, Brothers. We are at a moment where it is critical that the members herein have full faith that every dollar and moment of time that they invest in Alpha Phi Alpha is producing a positive return for the community and for themselves. Mark Tillman is the steward who can and will ensure that your Alpha Investment is protected.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Brother Mark S. Crain

I am fully invested in Bro. Mark Tillman’s candidacy for 34th General President of this illustrious Fraternity for one reason – Leadership. As I examined the records and platforms of both candidates, it is clear that Bro. Tillman is the next leader we need. He is a brother’s brother, he has shown the ability to manage money well, and he has a comprehensive vision for Alpha. That Vision includes ensuring that the Fraternity invests in the Brothers whom invest in the Fraternity, that we focus on Black youth to secure the future of our communities and our nation, and that we chart a path to the future that every brother knows where we are going. That is leadership. That is why I am fully invested in Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President.

Brothers,
It is truly a privilege that I endorse the candidacy of Mark Tillman for the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
I have known Brother Tillman for over 25 years. We were undergraduate students studying Computer Science at Dillard University, and we crossed the burning sands at Beta Phi on November 22, 1985. Over the 25 years that I have known Brother Tillman, he has been the core of our line and the thread that has kept the nine of us connected with each other and to the Fraternity.
In the years since becoming men of Alpha, Brother Tillman has shown a real commitment to the principles and ideals of this great Fraternity. It is evident in his continued, active involvement in the business of Alpha and his platform of furthering the Fraternity’s mission, re-energizing the membership, and increasing our brand and value to the nation. Brother Tillman expresses all the true values of brotherhood: dedication, compassion and love for the Fraternity.
It is my sincere belief that Brother Tillman has the right level of enthusiasm, commitment and bold ideas to ensure that Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated continues to be a “21st century change agent”.

Bro. Mark Tillman is prepared to lead Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. as its 34th General President. He is qualified because:
- He has committed his life to serving the fraternity as a leader from the moment that he saw the light.
- He has served in every major position including regional executive director, regional vice president and numerous critical committees.
- His professional management experience gives him high levels of people, process and project management skills and practices.
- His many contributions to the current efficient and effective management of the general organization have been clearly shown as a board member for four years; as the Midwestern regional executive director and Midwestern region vice president. He led efforts to deploy both process enhancements and management tools for the general office management.
- His fraternal spirit and commitment to brotherhood transcends all that he does supporting the fraternity as an organization and each individual brother he encounters.
- He has protected the fraternity’s assets through excellent risk management and appropriate disciplinary actions using thorough investigative techniques and respect for all involved.
- Under his mentorship, many brothers have advanced their leadership skills and positions in the fraternity.
- Developing leaders is clearly a skill and personal commitment he has made to many brothers. As Western regional vice president, I personally benefited from his tutelage and management recommendation which helped to resolve our financial issues.
- His fiscal management skill and transparency have been a hallmark of his leadership career leaving a flawless record of financial solvency as his legacy.
The fraternity needs a brother at the top leadership position who can bring this potent record of success, experience and commitment to the position of General President. His leadership will bring integrity, accountability, transparency, fraternal spirit, and love for all mankind to the office. His record of consistent success will guarantee continued success at the General President level. His vision for the future will assure growth and operational effectiveness in all facets of fraternal business. His ability to represent our major corporate interest to the top leaders around the country and throughout the world will secure Alpha Phi Alpha’s seat at all major tables of important discourse on issues affecting our communities locally, nationally and internationally.
Please join me in supporting Bro. Mark Tillman as our 34th General Presidents.

Beloved Brother of Alpha,
As a former Western Region Assistant Vice President, I had the opportunity to sit at the table of leadership. While serving in this capacity I saw a board member who set himself apart from the usual politics of the day and demonstrated his leadership with results and accountability—Brother Mark Tillman.
Our organization and this nation are yet again at a pivotal moment in history. As the climate has drastically changed socially, economically, and politically over the past few years it becomes even more pressing that Alpha Phi Alpha’s next steps are
calculated and effective. We must change the way we do business, including how we prioritize the issues we choose to address as an organization. I am convinced that Brother Mark Tillman’s leadership is necessary to make the systemic changes in this
fraternity to ensure our relevance in the years to come.
I have personally experienced his invested interest in the wellbeing of this organization, as a brother who met this candidate as a neophyte at my first convention in Kansas City and from the time I spent with him on the Board of Directors. As a neophyte I saw Brother Tillman engage with a group of college brothers whose chapter was on the brink of suspension. Despite the circumstances, he maintained a level of compassion that served to be developmental. I witnessed first hand how critical it was for Alumni brothers, especially those in positions of leadership, to build up undergraduates in their time of need. A selfless leader is what Brother Tillman has proven himself to be. The best interest of the organization always comes first to his personal agenda and this is exactly the type of leadership needed in Alpha Phi Alpha.
Brother Tillman understands the importance of being a compassionate yet firm leader. Not afraid to make hard decisions, he does so in a tactful manner. Furthermore, coupled with his dynamic leadership skills, he has the consciousness necessary to make the changes our organization needs in regard to heightened community action, the development of college brothers, and its economic stability. We need a leader that will not simply maintain the order of the house, but one who will be willing to challenge what has become the status quo—one who will set new standards, standards that are relevant to the context of today! For these reasons, I am convinced that Brother Mark Tillman’s leadership is necessary to protect our organizations integrity.
As the Vice President of the Midwestern Region for two terms, he has had proven results in regards to transparent and prudent fiscal management. As a fellow board member, he proved himself to be an accessible and ethical leader, more importantly
a leader who understands the core principles of organizational behavior.
Brother Tillman’s investment in Alpha is characterized by a good balance between business and brotherhood. He has the experience, the vision, and the consciousness needed to take this fraternity to new heights. I endorse Bro. Mark Tillman in his
candidacy for the office of our 34th General President without reservation!

Brother Tillman,
As an 8 year active member in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., I have had the opportunity to observe three Past General Presidents as they have led our great Fraternity. I have also read about the wonderful and revered Past General Presidents before my initiation date as well. At this moment in our fraternity’s existence, I feel that we need a visionary leader who can strategically involve both season and younger brothers into the work of restoring our long-term viability through a strong foundation, structurally, operationally, and fiscally. Given the current issues facing our nation, I feel that we need a strong fiscally sound leader who can be aggressive enough to generate income through protecting our corporate brand to allow continued sponsorship but, who is also conservative enough to make sound investment and spending decisions that will safeguard our financial assets. I also believe that the next General President should believe and demonstrate the highest level of brotherhood and demonstrate that concern through the developmental approach of mentoring and developing our college and newly initiated brothers to become greater members of our fraternity.
For over 25 years, Brother Mark S. Tillman has been a dedicated servant through and to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His successful administration as a Past Mid-Western Regional Vice-President demonstrates his executive preparedness to lead Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. into the next phase of service. Also, the fact that Brother Tillman has led profitable regional conventions within the Mid-western region demonstrates his fiscal fecundity. Therefore, I support Brother Mark S. Tillman and his candidacy to be Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s 34th General President.
I have invested in the administrations of Brother Past General President Harry E. Johnson, Brother Past General President Darryl R. Matthews, Brother General President Herman “Skip” Mason, and, now, I am ready to invest in Brother Mark S. Tillman as the 34th General President. Therefore, you should invest in the future of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through your support in Brother Mark S. Tillman also!
Fraternally yours in service,

As the 2011 Western Region Alumni Brother of the Year, it is my pleasure to endorse, promote and support Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
I have personally known Bro. Tillman since the time of my initiation in 2004 into Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter, Key # 283, seated in Ann Arbor, MI. Since that time, I have personally witnessed Mark to be nothing short of the epitome of a true Alpha man with the highest degree of integrity, work-ethic and one who exercises an honesty driven, action-based leadership. The legacy Bro. Tillman has set forth in terms of administrative accountability was and remains apparent with his tenure and track record as Area Director, District Director, Regional Associate Executive Director and ultimately Regional Vice-President. Furthermore, let it never be said this was the totality of Bro. Tillman’s service to our fraternity as amidst all these, Mark has also tirelessly served as a trainer for Alpha University, served on the National Headquarters Facilities Management Committee as well as the National Management Information Systems Committee which ultimately led to Alpha Phi Alpha crossing the digital divide into a modern organizational electronic infrastructure with the launching of AlphaNET. Bro. Tillman is not one to sing his own praises, therefore, I will not be timid in saying; The legacy of leadership Mark has set forth resonates strongly with the brothers, chapters, areas, districts and regions which have had the pleasure of being touched by his leadership for good reason. Those whom have served with and interacted with Bro. Tillman still benefit from his leadership in the visionary policies, precedents and procedures he has enacted.
Brothers, what Alpha needs at this time is not eloquent rhetoric which is pleasing to our ears. Rather, Alpha needs a clear and proven track record of integrity, hard-work, solid character and responsible leadership. From personal experience, I can attest to the fact that this is indeed what we have in Bro. Mark S. Tillman.

Only GOD would have known that an ambitious, intelligent and forward-thinking young man back in the Fall of 1985 (Beta Phi Chapter) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated would run and choose to become the Next Great General President of this wonderful organization.
As his Line Brother, we are more than LB’s – we are spiritual brothers, we are friends, we are Family!

It is an honor and privilege to officially endorse Bro. Mark S. Tillman as our 34th General President. Simply stated, he embodies the “true essence” of brotherhood. I’ve had the pleasure of personally knowing Bro. Tillman for more than 6 years when I was chapter President of Alpha Lambda. During our friendship I’ve witnessed the unwavering love he has for the brotherhood and his undying commitment to service and fraternal affairs. His leadership tenure is vast covering professional, fraternal, and civic areas making him a suitable candidate and our next leader. His Roadmap to Excellence guided our region toward important milestones while providing transparency and accountability. This past year I had the honor as serving under his leadership as Convention Chair of the 79th Midwestern Regional Convention in Louisville, KY. Bro. Tillman focus on brotherhood, convention efficiency, financial profitability, and fraternal operations resulted in a convention that was memorable, profitable, and enjoyed by all in attendance. His Alpha Investment philosophy is critical in the advancement of our fraternity and will play a vital role in the future of this organization. I am proud and excited to endorse Bro. Mark S. Tillman as our next General President!!

The Alpha Investment is an easy ideology to follow and adhere to, just as Bro. Mark S. Tillman is an easy man of Alpha to support. My backing is not limited to just writing this message, it is acknowledged by way of my efforts in assisting with his campaign as well. I believe in and respect his honesty and integrity. He is running an ethical campaign reflective of the highest standards of Alpha Phi Alpha. I want a leader who works and not just talks, who provides specific actions, not just offers nice-sounding platitudes. The best for us is the man whose fraternal life is a reflection of the best in us. I know of Mark’s work in the fraternity, his work in the community, his commitment to family and his willingness to personally sacrifice to lift others up. That is the Alpha Phi Alpha I know of from Brothers who knew all of the Jewels. I want leadership that demonstrates our best attributes while maintaining the attributes of the greatest Brothers in our history. For those reasons, among others not mentioned here, I am investing in Bro. Mark S. Tillman and believe all Brothers who care about the future of our Alpha should invest in him too.

My Dear Brothers of Alpha,
As the fraternity returns its focus to the election for 34th General President, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my endorsement of Brother Mark S. Tillman for General President.
As one of the 34th General President candidates, I studied all candidates very carefully, continuously listened to their statements during various forums, and pondered their issues, track records, and platforms. After my exit from the campaign, I became convinced that Brother Tillman is best equipped to lead Alpha Phi Alpha for the next four years.
As I stated several times during my own campaign, the Millennium has come and gone; the Centennial has come and gone; and now, the MLK Dedication has come and gone. It is now time for Alpha to get busy and turn its focus to the pertinent issues of the day!
It’s time for this fraternity to get a serious handle on the increasing numbers of brothers who have left this house for other organizations. It’s time for us to leverage our strong legacy of service and forge partnerships with national organizations such as the NAACP, the Urban League, the National Education Association, and similar entities as we seek solutions to Why Jamaal Can’t Read? It’s time for us to mandate answers to why state and federal prisons are over-populated with black and brown brothers, when at the same time, white males are attending college at a rate of 20-30% greater. It is seriously time for Alpha to affect policy in this country just as we did decades ago.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity can no longer afford to talk the talk, but not walk the walk. We must do more than just look the part. That’s too easy! We must stand on the shoulders of our Jewels and other Alpha giants, and not rest upon our laurels for what those giants accomplished. We must create our own meaningful legacy that our sons, grandsons and future generations will look to with great pride!
Having studied Brother Tillman’s two terms as Midwestern Region Vice President, and the precision in which he managed his region, I am thoroughly convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that his leadership will move Alpha to that desired level of accomplishment that we as Alphamen so often seek. He left his region in the black when he turned it over to my good friend, Midwestern Regional Vice President, Brother Elgie Sims; HIS CONVENTIONS MADE MONEY; he always brought in a substantial level of corporate sponsorships; and his region always ranked first or second in terms of chapters maintaining good standing in Alpha.
As a 33-year continuously active member of this great fraternity, a holder of many leadership positions, including National General Counsel, Counsel to the National Education Foundation under two General Presidents, and 2-time candidate for General President, I am thoroughly convinced that Brother Tillman can effectively lead Alpha just as he led his District of Michigan for 2 years and his 12-district region for 4 years.
Brother Tillman has told this fraternity from the first day of his first leadership position where he stood, and as I reflect back, I have come to realize that he has not wavered from his convictions. He’s a family man; a man of God; a man of substance; a man of detail; a man of conviction; and a strong results-oriented leader. He’s my choice for 34th General President. I am fully invested!
Sincerely,
Brother Cecil E. Howard

My Beloved Brothers:
I am writing to designate my full support for Bro. Mark Tillman as the next General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Bro. Tillman is engaging and approachable, and Brothers who have served with him not only walked away with vast amounts of valuable experience, but with the memory of having a great time while working. As a Region, every Conversation came in under budget and netted a profit for the host Chapters as well at the Midwest Region. This is what made Bro. Tillman one of the most successful and admired Vice Presidents of this region.
Bro. Mark Tillman is seasoned, unpretentious, and one of the most humble Brothers I have encountered—he is the epitome of substance prevailing over style. His wife, Velicia is also gracious and accommodating, supporting Mark as he responds to the needs of Alpha and joining in when she can. Bro. Tillman is a consummate professional and a beloved Brother—not a politician. With his commitment to fiscal conservatism and transparency; high ideals and noble pursuits; and a dedication to efficiency and excellence in leadership and organization, Bro. Tillman is exactly what Alpha needs. He intently listens to all sides of a debate and uses all available information to make an informed decision for the long-term welfare and health of the Fraternity. If you seek a General President with character, integrity, and a passion for the ideals that we were founded upon, the clear choice is Bro. Mark Tillman.

Promoting academic excellence is one of the overarching goals in our fraternity’s mission statement. It should be one of the hallmarks that sets us apart from other Black fraternities. Yet our requirements tell a much different story:
- We have a meager 2.5 cum GPA requirement to become and remain a member in good standing,
- We do not have a graduation requirement,
- We allow college brothers to join Alumni chapters without a 4-year college degree,
- We allow brothers to become Life Members without a 4-year college degree, and
- We sorely lack accountability, tracking, and reporting as it relates to academic excellence.
And quite frankly, I find these academic requirements and the lack thereof, abysmal; they certainly are not a reflection of what I would consider to be “promoting academic excellence”.
I believe Bro. Mark Tillman has the vision, commitment, and tenacity to lead the fraternity in a direction that genuinely promotes academic excellence. That’s why I endorse Bro. Mark Tillman, the next General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

When Alpha Phi Alpha men speak, we are known to be men of many words. However, as time changes, our speeches must be shorter and our actions must be louder. I have heard of and watched him work day in and out since I met him in 2005 like no other member. Simply stated, Alpha Phi Alpha needs thoughtful, trained, and strategic leadership. We need it more now than ever! And with Brother Mark S. Tillman, by the Grace of God, serving as your President, you will get a servant who is thoughtful, trained, strategic. What more can one ask a brother to be? Help him as he strives to carry the torch of Alpha in a very difficult time.

Greetings,
Brother Tillman you a Brothers’ Brother, a real genuine servant leader. You are approachable, realistic, and true in what you do and all you serve. I thank you for offering your time, advice, service and mentorship to me as the newly elected President of the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter. My grandma taught me that it is the little things that people do that should show us the heart of the individual. Your coming to our meeting speaks volumes, but what rings even louder is your honest, integrity and humility. The scripture of Matthew 7:20 reads “you will know them by their fruits.” I see you bear great fruit brother and because of that I want to give my full support of your endeavor to become our 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. May the Lord be with you in all you do.

During my nearly three and a half years in our great Fraternity, I have had the opportunity to observe Brothers who have served Alpha Phi Alpha in many different capacities. In a Fraternity where mediocrity does not exist and the development of leaders occurs on a daily basis, Brother Mark S. Tillman has stood out to me as a Brother who is not only willing to talk the talk, but also get down in the trenches and do the never ending work of Alpha. Having served on the Southern Region Board of Directors for two years as the Assistant District Director for South Carolina and taking part in the Alpha Phi Alpha Leadership Academy in 2009, I can say with fully assurance that Brother Tillman possesses all of the skills necessary to reach EVERY Brother within our Fraternity especially College Brothers.
In a time where tough conversations need to be had in order to progress and protect our house, Brother Tillman has stood at the forefront to help Alpha Phi Alpha maintain its’ place as the preeminent Black Greek Letter Organization. His proven record of accomplishment in the Midwest Region speaks volumes to his unparalleled ability to see his plans into fruition. Many of our Fraternity’s current corporate sponsorships and initiatives were birthed within the Midwest Region under Brother Tillman’s leadership. Brother Tillman’s Roadmap to Excellence, which he established in the Midwest Region in 2008, was aimed specifically at strengthening the building blocks of our fraternity, the College Brother. Through reinforcing Alpha University and Alpha Leadership Academy, maintaining the focus on our National Programs, and establishing education scholarships for Brothers/students, Brother Tillman has shown that even though he was initiated over 20 years ago into the Beta Phi chapter at Dillard University, the “Alpha Fever” still burns within him today.
College Brothers, this is a pivotal time in our Fraternity and we must ask ourselves, who we want to lead us and absorb the numerous bumps and blows that will come Alpha’s way. This is why I am INVESTING in Brother Mark S. Tillman as our 34th General President.
Fraternally,

I wholeheartedly endorse Bro. Mark S. Tillman’s candidacy for our next General President. I remember meeting Bro. Tillman a month or so after I crossed (7 years ago) at the Gamma Lambda house in Detroit where my mentor, who served as his ADD years prior, introduced us. It was from that very moment on that Bro. Tillman showed me what it meant to be a true Alpha Man. Unlike some, Bro. Tillman walks the walk and not simply talks a good talk.
Whenever I had a question or needed a brother, Bro. Tillman was there! He has become a mentor to me and has shown me that Alpha was much bigger than your home chapter. While running for RVP of the Midwest, I was able to travel with him across the region and have been introduced to many good brothers who I still communicate with today. This brother’s brother is also a good part of the reason for making my transition from Detroit to the Akron area easier because I had already knew a few of the brothers in the area.
Leadership is a cornerstone of what Bro. Tillman does and it is not something that he needs to be taught; as the most senior member of the board of directors he has shown that heis an advocate for the brotherhood. With Brother Tillman, we will have a General President who is not out strictly for personal or political gain. He has the vision, expertise and experience to lead the fraternity to our fullest potential! Join me brothers in not only endorsing Bro. Tillman but asking our chapters to pledge their full delegate strength towards the Alpha Investment!
Bro. Tillman you have my support and I am sure that the brothers across this fraternity will also as more get to see the unparalleled vision and leadership you have for the greatest brotherhood on earth.

It excites me greatly to offer my full endorsement for Brother Mark Tillman.
I have gotten to know him very well after sharing a cab from the airport in Portland, Oregon on our way to attend the 61st Western Region Conference, three years ago. Bro Tillman has been regular attendee of the WRC, even before he was officially running for the post of General President. I appreciate a Brother that is “real”, as noted in the poem “If”, one that can “Walk with King- nor lose his common touch.” That epitomizes Bro Tillman. A man, Brother, that can talk and walk with Neophytes as well as Life Member #215.
I fully endorse Bro Mark Tillman for the office of General President of this illustrious fraternity.

Dear Brother Vice President Tillman,
It’s with great pride and enthusiasm that I personally endorse your candidacy to become the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Your outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to this great fraternity is very well known by alpha-men from throughout the brotherhood. I particularly support your candidacy after having served directly under your leadership as an area director when you were the District Director of the State of Michigan. I was especially impressed with your goal oriented approach toward keeping all of your campaign promises, and for being an excellent communicator.
I have reviewed your platform for general president, and I support it completely.

Brother Tillman,
As you know, I have been a staunch supporter of you, and your investment into the “youth who march onward and upward towards the light.” I believe in your earnest commitment and concern for whatever ALPHA is able to contribute, that serves to increase mankind’s “face value”… before a righteous and loving GOD – i.e. what we do to make each other, better.
I am remembering the gospel story of the paralyzed man who convinced four other men to not only carry him to the place where he believed that he would receive his healing, but once there, the paralytic convinced these same four brothers to “break through the roof ” – that he might be in the presence of the healer, JESUS. Of course, you know the results from the story; the man’s GREAT FAITH garnered him his healing from the Master.
Continue to exhibit your ‘GREAT FAITH.’ It is contagious to we who dream with you.
And yes, my money lives in the same house with my words of encouragement. I am proud to be a GOLD level contributor to your campaign. A PHI, my Brother. And you know that I am praying your strength and wisdom towards becoming the 34th General President of our HOUSE.

In a time of banter, in an effort to garner a ‘niche,’ it is refreshing to see this brother of excellent moral and brotherly presence focused on brotherhood and facts to earn the distinction of the 34th General President. Brother Tillman is a leader by his actions. When I look at a ‘true’ leader, capable of leading other Alpha ‘leaders’…I look at fulfillment of his commitments. We all have some form of rhetoric, but I’ll tell you right now, I want to see evidence of rhetoric seen as much as heard. I’ve seen the roadmap, I’ve watched the assertive effort to follow it. I’ve noticed milestones achieved. I’ve participated in corrective actions put in place to get us back on track. These substantiated actions, since 2007, have been under Brother Tillman’s tenure as Midwestern Region VP. Brother Tillman has shown me & many other brothers, time and time again, what makes him the leader we need going into the next phase of Alpha’s future…
‘Investing’ in Alpha, past…now…and the future by way of ‘Action’ & always full of ‘Alpha Spirit!’

Dear Brothers in Alpha,
It is with great pride that I remit my support to Brother Mark S. Tillman for the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. As evident in Bro. Tillman’s past leadership, he has what it takes to re-energize the brotherhood, re-shape our image, and re-mind us what it means to be men of Alpha Phi Alpha. The leaven of self examination is upon us. The 7th chapter of our history book is entitled the “leaven of self examination”. Bro. Dr. Wesley uses this chapter to examine a time when the fraternity needed to take inward glances at its own development, organization and commitment to its aims. I turn to the good book of Ephesians in stating..
Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called (4:1). For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (5:8). See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil (5:15&16).
As men of Alpha Phi Alpha, let us walk with kings and not lose the common touch, and commit time to building the fraternity of which we boast so pridefully. Through Bro. Tillman’s platform let’s indulge even more in Esprit de fraternite to embolden our causes and re-engage brothers who have gone inactive. This is our time brothers…our change is now, the 7th chapter, this chapter of completion speaks to what will assist us in remaining “… servants of all…”; it’s the ability to examine self. Let’s march forward in full support of a brother who can help us to realize this leaven and keep Alpha Phi Alpha at the center stage, first of all, leading the way.
It is time for a new leaven. Join me in supporting Brother Mark S. Tillman for the 34th General President of the oldest, coldest and boldest fraternity ever created.
Onward,
Justin E. Davis

Greetings Bro. Tillman,
We met last year at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater during a late night dinner with the Brothers at a pizza spot during our District Convention. I simply want to say how proud I am to call you a Brother and I trust your leadership! You have proven your love for our beloved Fraternity time and time again and that’s what younger Brothers like myself need to see in order to continue to stay invested in Alpha! I love you Brother and I wish you and your family much prosperity and joy! I’ll be keeping you in my prayers as you continue to uphold the light! 06!

To My Fellow College Brothers,
As I reflect on the last three years of being a college brother, in what I believe to be the greatest fraternity in the history of the world, I have come to believe that great leadership is not an innate ability. Great leadership takes shape in the form of deliberate and intentional actions. Great leadership requires personal relationships in which the business of Alpha is handled professionally and efficiently with the concerns of the college brother at the forefront. With this said, it is my utmost pleasure to endorse Midwestern Regional Vice President Bro. Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Brother Michael D. Patton, Iota Rho Lambda Chapter, Pontiac, MI | February 16, 2011
Greetings to my Brothers and to all who read this,
My name is Michael D. Patton. I am the current Chapter President of the Iota Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and the sitting College Life to Corporate Life (C2C) Consulting Midwest Regional Director. I was born in Alpha on December 1, 1995 at the University of Oklahoma , Zeta Zeta chapter. I am here to show my support for Bro. Mark S. Tillman’s candidacy for 34th General President. I hope you all have had the opportunity to engage him and learn more about his platform. I know election processes can become disparaging events based on popularity and innuendo, but those are not Alpha Phi Alpha elections. We have four brothers who have answered the call to run for General President. These brothers serve with dedication to Alpha, but let me tell why I believe Bro. Tillman is the man to lead the house.
In 1939, Bro. Jewel Henry Arthur Callis stated, “For Alpha Phi Alpha, this awareness of our opportunity should mean a vigorous criticism of our conceptions and an examination of our procedures. We need wisely to appraise our times, to be responsive to contemporary thought; to bear the burden of a disadvantaged people; to stand firmly upon character and principle, making no sacrifices for some temporary good.” Awareness, wisdom, responsiveness, thought, character, principle, and sacrifice; these are all traits that an Alpha Man should master; traits that describe Bro. Mark S. Tillman. As a District Director and a two-term Regional Vice President, Bro. Tillman has worked tiredly to address the needs of the Michigan District , the Midwest Region, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. while stressing excellence visible through his own actions and setting the standard for brotherhood to a level that all who come in contact with him become inspired to achieve. Brothers, simply put, there is no better candidate better prepared to lead our Fraternity than Bro. Mark S. Tillman.
Fraternally,
Bro. Michael D. Patton

My Alpha Brothers,
I appreciate your time to add my 5 cents worth to the discussion of leadership. In Alpha, we are moved by fiery speeches, commitment to service above self, and Brothers who lead through conviction and not anticipation of personal gain. Brother Mark S. Tillman is a man who has provided all of the above in his 25 consistent years of ACTIVE membership in Alpha. Brother Tillman lets you know what he thinks without telling you what to think!
It is with tools of using all available information to formulate an opinion. This trait has also led to his decision-making process regarding his Alpha leadership. He has personally experienced the peaks and valleys of Alpha, and has dealt each situation with care, concern, dignity, and respect. All situations do not have the intended outcomes by all participants… I can assure you each side was afforded balanced review when decisions were rendered. In each case, what was best for the FRATERNITY was ever present.
Brothers articulate they want a “Brothers Brother…” in our leadership. In Brother Tillman, you get that and much more:
- He is the Brother who assisted you through a difficult moment during registration;
- He is the Brother who not only told you that he would try everything to help you with a problem…and did!
- He is the Brother who was elected to serve as District Director and lead Brothers by example;
- He is the Brother called on to work with at least Three regional Vice Presidents in various roles;
- He is the Brother who worked with you to navigate AlphaNet, because he was one of the architects;
- He is the Brother Elected to Regional Vice President and serve as a conscience of the Board;
- He is the Brother who listens to all sides of a situation before he provides his commentary or decision;
- He is the Brother who surprises you because he responds to your email, telephone call, text or tweet;
- He is the Brother who has the emotional, structural and financial health of the Fraternity as his concern;
- He is the Brother who addressed you, gripped you and respected you AS A BROTHER;
- And as you sleep, He IS the Brother working to understand and articulate what will improve the Brotherhood!
Brother Tillman is a man who has INVESTED in the vineyard of Alpha because he understands the final product is a reflection of us all.
I am proud to support and endorse Brother Mark S. Tillman for 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Over the years, I have quietly observed the outstanding leadership of many of our very talented brothers within the House of Alpha. Among the most devoted and admired is that of Brother Mark S. Tillman. In this present moment of our beloved fraternity’s need to continue its legacy of excellent leadership, Brother Mark S. Tillman is a welcomed presence to lead our brotherhood upward and onward to even higher heights.
In Brother Mark S. Tillman, we will have a competent and caring leader who is genuine, innovative, brother focused, and a sound critical thinker. One who seeks out practical solutions to our challenges and then provides a thoughtful and clear direction in our pathway forward. I am convinced that with the full support of brothers within our five regions, Mark S. Tillman will be a leader we can have confidence in and a Brother we can trust. Therefore, it is an honor for me to endorse Brother Mark S. In my first years of this dear fraternity I saw great value in the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. A few years later, when I became Assistant Vice President of the Western Region, Brother Mark Tillman was one of the first brothers who welcomed me into the Board of Directors. His love for the fraternity was undeniable and his fever for the college chapters shined bright in every board meeting. Throughout my term I saw that same value in brotherhood glow from Brother Mark S. Tillman while he lead the Midwestern Region to amazing accolades; both within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the communities in his region. It is very evident that Brother Mark S. Tillman carries the ‘intrinsic qualities’ of an Alpha Man, who has puts his ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into this fraternity. Whose’unconquerable soul’ is willing and ready to hold high our ‘college of friendship;’ our ‘university of brotherly love;’ our ‘school for the better making of men;’ our dear, Alpha Phi Alpha!

Bro. Mark Tillman is a great brother and has over 25 years of leadership experience in Alpha. He will implement a blueprint that will strengthen Alpha’s position as a leadership vehicle.
